According to the Charleston Police Department on Tuesday night two cars were broken into around the 3500-3800 blocks of MacCorkle Avenue and one was stolen. The cars targeted were Kia’s. This comes after just a few years ago there was a social media trend on TikTok that showed some Kia models from 2011 to 2022 do not have immobilizers to prevent the car from being started without a key. There are ways for Kia owners to obtain upgraded anti theft software. Officers do have leads in the case, according to Eyewitness News, and ask residents to review their home security footage for any signs of suspicious activity and let them know of anything that may help in their investigation.
