Charleston’s new fiscal year budget is approved

Finances for the 2026 fiscal year were approved by the Charleston City Council this week. The new budget goes into effect July 1, and it includes $6 million for paving, $500,000 for demolitions, a $1,040 raise for full-time employees, and an expansion of the take-home car program for Charleston police. There will be no new taxes or fees and city services and operations will be maintained.
