City of Charleston is among criminal justice grant recipients

The recipients of the Justice Assistance Grant were announced on Friday with more than $1 million in funds going to forty criminal justice projects across the state. According to a news release from the Office of the Governor, the funds will emphasize multi-jurisdictional projects to retain jobs in criminal justice. The grant will primarily fund additional resources to combat drug use, violent crime and allow cities to employ prevention resource officers to act as mentors, role models and advocates for students. The Cabell County Commission will receive $10,000. The City of Charleston will receive $65,000. The City of Nitro will receive $15,000.00. West Virginia State Police will receive $202,000. The funding is provided by federal agencies including the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs and Bureau of Justice Assistance.
