Dunbar City Council met to vote on the city’s insurance policy Friday night during an emergency meeting. This vote comes after two police brutality cases, which Eyewitenss News said caused their insurance and deductible to increase by thousands of dollars. Patrolman Zachary Winters and Lt. Adam Mason were the officers involved in the deaths of two men. The Dunbar police civil service commission found that the officers did not follow several rules and regulations of the department, including excessive force and violating the department’s pursuit rules. Their insurance has gone from $247,000 to $465,000 and their deductible raised from $50,000 to $100,000. The city plans on using their rainy-day funds. Beyond that, they’re looking towards collecting business and occupation taxes and city fines.
