Former law enforcement officer faces charges for sending explicit images to a teenage boy

A long-time and respected law enforcement officer is facing federal charges of receiving and attempting to receive child pornography after the mother of a 15-year-old boy found images on her son’s iPad that prompted her to go to the FBI. Kenneth McCord was arrested Wednesday morning by the FBI in Charleston. Eyewitness News reported the FBI interviewed the boy’s mother in Orange County, CA, regarding sexually explicit messages she believed had been exchanged between an unidentified adult man and her teenage son. A federal agent said the conversation with “Ken” on the boy’s iPad dated back to December 30, 2024, who was later identified as McCord. McCord, who has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience, was most recently a senior investigator for the West Virginia Commission of Special Investigations. McCord will appear for a preliminary hearing on March 24.
