The new Upper Kanawha Valley Elementary School will be built in Dupont City, where the old Dupont Junior High School used to stand before it was torn down. It’s been a vacant field used as a youth soccer field up until now, and since the Kanawha County School District owns the property it can avoid the cost of buying new land by putting the new school in that spot. Upper Kanawha Valley Elementary will include students from Midland Trail, Mary Ingles, Malden and Belle Elementary. The Kanawha County Board of Education voted to close the four elementary schools and merge them together to form the new school.
