Traveling museum exhibit highlights African American history

The Sankofa African American Museum made a pitstop in Charleston to showcase African American history to the community. Museum curator Angela Jennings told Eyewitness News that the exhibit is an important way of educating everyone on the history of African Americans. The museum’s journey begins in Africa, and expands into slavery, lynching, African American inventors, and all the way up into present day. The collection of items on display today varied from each specific time period of African American history, and in some cases highlighted the traumatic events that many African Americans have faced throughout history. The exhibit stopped at the West Virginia State University Center at 107 Capitol Street on its tour around the country.
