A loaded gun is discovered at a TSA checkpoint in Charleston

A Raleigh County man was cited by police after a loaded handgun was found at West Virginia International Yeager Airport. A 9mm handgun loaded with five bullets, including one in the chamber, was found by Transportation Security Administration officers at an airport checkpoint on Saturday, according to a news release from the TSA. The Daniels, W.Va., man was removed from the checkpoint and questioned before police said he was cited on a criminal charge. This is the second firearm that TSA officers have found at the Charleston airport this year. TSA officers found six guns in 2024. Bringing a gun to an airport checkpoint carries the potential for a federal civil penalty up to $15,000, depending on the specific weapon and the circumstances.
