Boone County students recognized for registering classmates to vote

Two Boone County students were honored by state officials this week for their effort to register their classmates to vote. Maycey Davis and Jillian Toney, both seniors at Sherman High School, were designated as Honorary Secretaries of State for their voter registration efforts among their peers, according to a news release from West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner’s office. Davis and Toney were nominated by their teacher, Abby Bolton, who is a former Honorary Secretary of State. Nominations for the honor are only accepted by those high schools that qualify for the Jennings Randolph Award – which recognizes high schools that host student-led efforts to register at least 85% of the eligible student body.
