Kanawha County deputies are investigating after human remains were found Tuesday. Deputies said they received a call for a welfare check after what appeared to be a body was found over a hillside along Walnut Gap Road just outside Charleston city limits, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. They’re investigating the person’s identity and cause of death. The remains are believed to be a male, but due to a “significant level of decomposition,” it is difficult to determine how long the body has been there, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies also said in the news release the cause of death appears to be inconsistent with natural causes. The remains have been transported to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office for a full autopsy.
