Kanawha County is looking for a long term solution for ongoing flooding mitigation. Flooding from blocked culverts or streams has been the big contributor to flooding homes across Kanawha County and some said it’s only gotten worse. Each time it rains, people say they’re scared they’ll have more water to clean out of their homes. The Kanawha County Commission has been cleaning out culverts county wide and encouraging neighbors to do the same. The commission has adopted the Kanawha County Stream and culvert mitigation ordinance which would give clearer guidelines for the upkeep of culverts and streams to better prevent damage to property. Any Kanawha County residents who are having a water blockage are urged to contact the Kanawha County Planning Department.
