It has been a priority bill for West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey this legislative session, and on the night before the session ends, the Senate passed what has been deemed the microgrid bill. HB 2014 now heads back to House for them to possibly concur with the changes. This bill creates a microgrid program to attract data centers to the state. It would allow for the creation of microgrid districts to pave the way for data centers to power themselves, essentially creating their own in-house power sources. Advocates of the bill say these centers will be an economic driver for development in the state, creating construction jobs and some center jobs while also increasing tax revenue.
