New leader is named for West Virginia’s corrections department

A new leader has been announced at the West Virginia’s Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Gov. Patrick Morrisey named Lance Yardley as the acting commissioner of the division, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
Yardley previously served as the deputy commissioner since 2024. Eyewitness News said Yardley began his law enforcement career in 1993, working as a case manager, unit manager and as a warden of Prunytown Correctional Center in Taylor County before moving to the WVDCR. Yardley will replace William “Billy” Marshall III who was tapped to head the Federal Bureau of Prisons by President Donald Trump.
