UC launches a new AI major

Beginning in Fall 2025, the University of Charleston will offer a major in Artificial Intelligence. The new AI major is designed to prepare students not only to use AI, but to understand and shape its future, according to Dr. Vincent Smith, Program Director of Computer Science and Data Analytics. Smith said on the UC website that the new AI major will emphasize ethical development, real-world applications, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Students in the program will gain hands-on experience designing and implementing intelligent systems that can analyze, predict, and optimize complex problems, using the latest tools and technologies shaping the AI landscape.
