West Virginia high school basketball player faces charges for targeting players

A West Virginia high school basketball player has been charged after allegedly “targeting” players from the opposing team during a game. 18-year old Gage Ketterman is charged with malicious assault and two counts of attempted malicious assault following an incident during a high school basketball game that left one opposing player with a broken nose, according to a news release from West Virginia State Police. Troopers said Ketterman could allegedly be seen on video using his elbow to “single out and target players” from the opposing team, either after or away from the main area of play and strike them in the head or face. The investigation began following a basketball game on Feb. 27 at Union High School where a 17-year-old suffered a broken nose. Troopers said Ketterman’s conduct “was both intentional and deliberate in attempting to cause serious bodily injury.” Ketterman was arrested and charged on Sunday.
