Whitefeather and Lantz will appeal before end of month

Jeanne Whitefeather and Donald Lantz appeared virtually from prison in their first hearing since they were each sentenced to more than 100 years in prison, but as it was pointed out in court on Friday, the clock is ticking for them to appeal their case. “I do want to ask because we have that your appeal deadline is running, is it not?” Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge Maryclaire Akers asked. According to their attorneys, Lantz and Whitefeather do intend to appeal their convictions before the deadline at the end of the month. The pair was found guilty in January of human trafficking, forced labor, child abuse and neglect. Whitefeather was also found guilty of civil rights violations. This all stems from the October 2023 discovery of Whitefeather and Lantz’s adopted Black teens found locked in a shed in Sissonville.
