A Charleston man is sentenced for receiving drugs through the mail

A Charleston man was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Wednesday on drug charges accrued while on supervised release. Tyrece Phillips faces several charges after authorities seized a United State Postal Service package in October 2024 that contained 538 grams of substances containing fentanyl, according to the United State Attorney’s Office, Southern District of West Virginia. Eyewitness News reported investigators removed the substance from the package and replaced it with a substitute before delivering the package to Phillip’s home. Once he arrived at his residence, he took the package inside and opened it. A search warrant was executed where authorities discovered residue of the mock substance. Three children were also in the home while Phillip’s was handling the package. At the time, Phillips was on supervised release following a previous 2019 conviction for distribution of fentanyl. Phillips will be placed on five years of supervised release following his 12-year prison sentence.
