The first Foodtown store in West Virginia is set to open on Charleston’s East End in the coming months, bridging the gap for residents that have long had very few options for grocery shopping in the immediate area. East End resident James Lawson said for years due to the lack of a grocery store in the area he has either had his groceries delivered or had to take public transportation to get to the store.”Unless you take the bus and you’re limited to what you could carry on a bus and cabs and Uber are really outrageous,” Lawson said. Owner of the store Ray Shaw from New York said this store is going to bring the convenience of a bodega that is commonly found in New York City, providing a one stop shop for East End residents needs. The Foodtown on Charleston’s East End is set to open on August 1, and Shaw said it offers a variety of items from cat food to dog food, milk and eggs, cleaning supplies, socks and will also have a hot and cold deli bar.
