Highways officials are expediting the replacement of a Kanawha County bridge that has left residents with lengthy detours and safety concerns. Eyewitness News said the 20-foot bridge on Woodward Drive in North Charleston will be replaced after its closure on April 29 was prompted by a routine inspection. A news release from the West Virginia Division of Highways said an emergency order for steel has been filed and the old span has been removed. The DOH plans to pour concrete for the new bridge the week of May 19 and the replacement will be completed once steel arrives.
