With the Pro Road National Championships taking over Charleston during the week, Eyewitness News wanted to know how race officials keep the cyclists safe as they ride through the capital city at high speeds. Race director Will Smith said each city has its own unique challenges. A multi-car caravan with medical personnel follows the cyclists as they go around the city. Smith said having both a team in the caravan and on site for the races allows them to provide care to cyclists and spectators.
