The Cabell County Board of Education voted to approve the 2026 fiscal year budget this week. Eyewitness News said the total of the budget is $22.8 million with a $7.1 million decrease in funding mainly due to a decline in student enrollment. Superintendent Tim Hardesty said a lot of COVID recovery funds went towards paying staff. Without those dollars, they’ll look at having to let go of some positions. Without the excess levy of nearly $30 million of additional funding, more major cuts would have been made this year. This budget will begin on July 1 pending approval from the state board of education.
