The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources said a Lincoln County man has broken a fishing record. Jerry Porter from Harts broke the state’s black crappie weight record, weighing in at 3.6 lbs and measuring 17.7 inches. The previous record was held by Alum Creek resident Dwight Priestly, who caught a black crappie last year in Jackson County. Priestley’s catch still holds the fish species’ record for length. Porter caught his fish in East Lynn Lake in Wayne County. The black crappie was one of five new species the WVDNR established state record categories for in 2024.
