Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Tom Truman recently told CNN that although he wouldn’t prosecute someone for a miscarriage, he made the suggestion out of an abundance of caution after hearing from other prosecutors. He warned that women could be charged under state laws related to the disposal of human remains. In response, the West Virginia Prosecuting Attorneys Association said in a news release on Monday that Truman’s comments “do not reflect the consensus, official position, or legal interpretation” of its members.
