CAMC investigates doctors after patients receive ‘unnecessary’ surgeries

Hundreds of people are coming forward who believe they had unnecessary hernia repair surgeries during planned bariatric surgeries at Charleston Area Medical Center, some even without permission. It’s part of a major class action lawsuit filed against the hospital and two doctors who no longer work there. A female patient, who is part of the lawsuit, spoke with Eyewitness News anonymously. She received a letter from CAMC that stated that the paraesophageal hernia repair procedure “may not have been medically necessary.” The letter went on to say that CAMC is taking the matter seriously, and she will not have to pay for the procedure. In the suit, it said that Drs. Robert Shin and Samuel Rossi were both terminated. They are no longer listed as practitioners on the CAMC website.
