Changes promised following complaints about apartment buildings

At a community meeting on Charleston’s East End Tuesday night, residents voiced frustration over apartment buildings owned by Patriot Services Group.

Neighbors say the properties are magnets for crime and trash that piles up.

Eyewitness News reports Patriot owns eight properties in the city and one was recently declared unfit for people to live in.

Since 2021, the city says fire crews have responded to 352 incidents at these locations—more than a third of them just this year.

Patriot Services says they’re working on it. The company is evicting problem tenants, running background checks on new ones, and partnering with Waste Management to speed up dumpster pickups.

City officials say community meetings will continue—to hold the company accountable and push for progress.
