Marshall University dorm is being torn down

A longstanding dormitory on the campus of Marshall University is being demolished and rebuilt. Eyewitness News said Holderby Hall, a nine-story residential building,, is being torn down to make room for an apartment-style living quarters. Originally named South Hall in 1963, the building was renamed after James Holderby who sold farmland to for the establishment of the Marshall Academy in 1837. Holderby Hall more recently served as office space and also to isolate COVID patients during the pandemic. Marshall staff noted a remodel of the building was cost prohibitive. Contractors expect the demolition to take three to four months.
