A Huntington man has pleaded guilty to accepting a cut of veterans’ disability benefits after assisting them with preparing their claims, prosecutors said. Timothy Lane Crowder, 44, pleaded guilty to unlawful receipt of gratuities after admitting to receiving about $24,500 from disability benefits awarded to veterans while he was working at the Veterans Benefits Administration, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia said. Crowder is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 27 and faces a maximum of five years in prison, up to three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. He is also required to repay $24,525 in restitution.
