Several families in Lincoln County are stuck without a way in or out of their neighborhood after flash flooding wiped out the only bridge connecting them to the outside world.
The Scites Ridge Road Bridge near Midkiff collapsed during heavy rain, cutting off access to about 20 homes. On Tuesday, crews used an excavator to remove what was left of the bridge from the creek — it had been acting like a dam, blocking the waterway.
Jason Foster with the Division of Highways told WCHS TV the bridge fix should be complete by the end of the week.
