Two more former correctional officers have been sentenced in Quantas Burks death

Two more former correctional officers have been sentenced for their roles in the 2022 death of an inmate at Southern Regional Jail, according to prosecutors. Corey Snyder, 30, was sentenced to 19 years and seven months in prison for conspiring with other officers to violate Quantez Burks’ civil rights by using unreasonable force, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia. Jacob Boothe, 27, was sentenced to three years in prison for failing to intervene to stop the assault. The two men are among six former correctional officers who have been indicted, pleaded guilty and/or sentenced in the case. Prosecutors said Snyder and Boothe responded to a call for officer assistance on March 1, 2022, after Burks attempted to push past another correctional officer and leave his assigned post.
