Utility company warns of scammers demanding payment

Appalachian Power is warning of scammers looking to take advantage of potential targets during warm weather months. The utility said scammers will demand payment using high-pressure tactics and threats to disconnect services amid soaring temperatures. Another scam involves bogus offers to lower rates by installing solar panels. The power company reminded customers that workers will never call and demand immediate compensation in the form of prepaid cards, gift cards or digital payment. Also, its employees do not visit homes to collect payments or sell products. Customers are encouraged to report scam attempts to providers and local police.
