A Kanawha County bridge has been closed after a routine inspection revealed structural issues, transportation officials said. A short span at the .38 miler marker along Rutledge Road in Charleston has been shut down until crews can gather materials for replacement, according to a news release from the West Virginia Department of Transportation.The news release noted the 18-foot bridge had previously been narrowed to a single lane due to issues with support beams. The Division of Highways has made a decision to close the span “out of an abundance of caution.” Engineers plan to expedite the process, but in the meantime Division of Highways has established detours that will be accessible to area residents, school buses and emergency vehicles:
