Some students in Richwood are getting an unexpected two-day extension to their summer break. The new Cherry River school building—meant to welcome middle and high school students on Wednesday—isn’t quite ready yet. Nicholas County Superintendent Scott Cochran and Richwood Principal Scott Williams say they need a little more time to move in and prepare classrooms. Elementary students won’t join the new building until January, as that wing is still under construction. For now, they’re sharing space with Panther Creek Elementary. The new PreK–12 school is part of the Cherry River consolidation project and was originally set to open for the start of this school year. All other students in Nicholas County started back to school as scheduled on Wednesday.
