The city of Milton is taking a major step toward flood protection that’s been decades in the making.
Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers joined state and local leaders Monday morning to sign the partnership agreement for the Lower Mud River flood risk management project.
The project will require relocating a portion of the Mud River, building two pump stations, and installing a stop log gate for road closures during high water.
The project is expected to benefit more than 600 homes, businesses, and key infrastructure across Milton.
Construction funding comes from the bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 and the Water Resources Development Act of 2022.
