Groups rally against providing clients’ SNAP information to the federal government

The US Department of Agriculture is calling on SNAP agencies across the country to release personal information about those who are in the program. Almost two dozen groups across West Virginia are urging Gov. Patrick Morrisey to not allow this to happen within the state, including the West Virginia Citizen Action Group. The information the federal government seeks includes immigration status, birthdays and home addresses. CEO of the Facing Hunger Food Bank Cynthia Kirkhart said there needs to be some better clarification on what the government plans to do with this data. Attorney generals from 21 different states are working to throw out the request, but West Virginia’s JB McCuskey is not on that list and it’s unclear if he will join the trend. Eyewitness News reached out to McCuskey but did not hear back.
