Heroism Award given to Souther District of WVA Cops task force

Several law enforcement officers in West Virginia have been recognized for their involvement in apprehending a high-profile fugitive. A Distinguished Group Award for Heroism has been given to 13 members of the Southern District of West Virginia Cops United Felony Fugitive Enforcement Division Task Force, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Office. In June, investigators apprehended 55-year-old Emaunel Sewell, a convicted sex offender accused of murdering Maryland Patrol Agent Davis Geovanni Martinez, in Putnam County. Task force officers contained the vehicle and apprehended Sewell despite violent resistance. Said U.S. Marshal Michael Baylous “Their professionalism, teamwork, and courage under pressure not only brought justice for Parole Agent Martinez but also ensured the safety of our community. I am proud of their dedication and honored to call them my brothers.
