A man who was fatally shot by a homeowner in Kanawha County last week after he was found in a home led law enforcement on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle a few days before. Joshua Duff of Mount Zion was killed on Aug. 8 after a homeowner on Lick Branch Road in the Rocky Fork area found him inside their home armed with a baseball bat and a knife, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. WCHS TV reported that deputies learned Duff was involved in a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle from Pennsylvania on Aug. 6. The pursuit went through the Cross Lanes area and into Putnam County before returning to Kanawha where Duff crashed the vehicle on Poca River Road near Lick Branch Road. He fled into the woods, and they think he remained in the area until he broke into the home where he was eventually found by the homeowner. An investigation into the incident is ongoing and no formal charges have been filed against the homeowner.
