The Putnam County Commission approved using opioid settlement money to pay for software for the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office to use to unlock suspects phones in an investigation. Eyewitness News said Cellebrite Inseyets is the software, and it would only be used with a search warrant or permission, but any municipal police officer in Putnam County that needs to download a phone would be able to go to the sheriff’s office and use the software. Opioid settlement funds approved by the Putnam County Commission are what made this possible. Sheriff Bobby Eggleton said previously they’ve had to send the phones to South Charleston to get them unlocked.
