A new trial date is set for the man charged with murder in the death of a woman whose body was found in a Sissonville well in May 2021. A pre-trial hearing for Michael Smith was held in Kanawha County Circuit Court this week where a new trial date was set for Aug. 25. He previously had a trial scheduled in 2023 that was delayed. Smith is one of the suspects charged in the murder of 35-year-old Cheyenne Johnson and concealing her body in a well in Sissonville. The other suspect in the case, Virginia Marie Smith, 33, pleaded guilty in 2023 to first-degree murder, concealment of a dead body and using a firearm during a felony.
