A criminal complaint has been filed following an incident at Mary C. Snow Elementary school in Kanawha County. A nonverbal student was found by a City of Charleston worker near the Kanawha River. An attorney who spoke with Eyewitness News estimates the child was off school grounds for at least 15 minutes before they were found and said the school was not aware the child had left the property. He also said the parents made staff at the school aware the child runs off, but he said that was never documented. Kanawha County Schools released a statement last Monday, saying in part, they are reviewing their procedures and making sure every safeguard possible is in place.
