Embattled Calhoun County commissioner appears in court

A Calhoun County commissioner facing dozens of child sexual abuse charges was in this week. Jacob McCumbers of Arnoldsburg faces 50 counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian, and had a preliminary hearing Wednesday waived. A new preliminary court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 10. WCHS TV said police also served a search warrant for McCumbers’ DNA during the hearing. The alleged victim said the abuse kept going for eight or nine years, and he was under the age of ten when it began. McCumbers is listed as a first-grade teacher at Arnoldsburg Elementary School. He was elected to the commission in 2024. McCumbers remains free on bond.
