Lawsuit dropped against former West Virginia State Police Superintendent

A lawsuit by former West Virginia State Police Superintendent Jan Cahill over his 2023 resignation amid an investigation into the agency has been dismissed. The lawsuit filed against the state and Department of Homeland Security failed to provide the correct state official with required notice that legal action was coming, according to Eyewitness News. Cahill’s lawyer is uncertain if he will refile. In the lawsuit, Cahill claimed he was forced to resign for being a whistleblower over what he thought was COVID relief fraud.
Cahill worked as a trooper from 1989 until 2012. He was appointed as superintendent of West Virginia State Police in January 2017.
