Major road work completed to widen highway

Major work has been completed on the Jefferson Road widening project in South Charleston, alleviating congestion that has plagued the area for years.”It’s a continuous flow of traffic and that’s the big thing out here we needed,” South Charleston Mayor Frank Mullens said.On Friday, crews finished paving and striping the last section of the road. “I went out there Sunday morning and went to Lowe’s. That’s the first time I’ve been on it since all five lanes were opened,” Mullens said. “I thought when I got out there, what a pleasure that was to get out here nice and quickly and not have to deal with a lot of stopping and starting with the two stop lights.” Alleviating traffic around popular stores has been a large focus of this project.
