Highway officials announced Tuesday bids have been accepted to address structural issues along Charleston’s Fort Hill Bridge. Engineers expedited the bidding process to bring a protective membrane and fresh asphalt to the 50-year-old bridge, according to a news release from the West Virginia Department of Transportation. Concrete repairs will be followed up with a waterproof rubber barrier and a 2-inch asphalt overlay. The bridge has seen intermittent lane closures because of regular pothole problems. WCHS TV said the overlay project is expected to be complete later this year with a full bridge deck in 2027.
