West Virginia State University to put donation toward its new ag school

West Virginia State University is celebrating a major milestone with a $1 million gift to support its new school of agriculture.

The donation comes from the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation and will help fund WVSU’s new Purdy School of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. University President Ericke Cage called the gift “transformative” and a strong vote of confidence in WVSU’s long-standing work in agricultural research.

The new school will be housed in a planned $50 million ag lab on the Institute campus, shared with the West Virginia Department of Agriculture to give students hands-on experience.

The school is named after Verl and Belinda Purdy, who contributed $2.5 million last year.
