First Choice Services held a hiring event Tuesday in Charleston to help fill critical positions for the 988 suicide and crisis hotline. Since launching in 2022, the hotline has fielded more than 13 million calls nationwide, but staffing shortages remain a challenge. Officials say hiring more workers will ensure someone is always there to answer in times of crisis. Those who missed the event can still apply online for full-time positions at the Charleston call center.
