A Charleston woman is facing charges after allegedly stealing nearly $10,000 from an elderly woman in her care.
Police say 35-year-old Ivora Pena Hensley is charged with financial exploitation of an elderly person, a felony that carries up to 20 years in prison.
The 72-year-old victim allowed Hensley and her husband to live rent-free in exchange for care, and gave Hensley access to her credit card for essential expenses.
But investigators say Hensley made unauthorized purchases and ATM withdrawals, including from Temu and Walmart.
She’s also accused of tampering with the victim’s power meter, leaving her without electricity and forcing her to move in with family.
Hensley remains in jail on a $25,000 bond.
