Calhoun County school board faces citations over 2024 bus crash

The Calhoun County Board of Education has been cited for multiple safety violations following a March 2024 school bus crash that injured 19 students.

Federal investigators say the crash happened when the bus, driven by Jeffrey Brannon, rolled over on South Calhoun Highway. One student later had a leg amputated due to severe injuries.

Brannon’s blood alcohol level was .127%, well over the legal limit. He’s now serving up to 110 years in prison.

The NTSB says the school board failed to properly drug test Brannon, didn’t verify his qualifications, and missed multiple required safety steps in the years leading up to the crash.
