City Council vacancy remains in Milton

The city of Milton missed its deadline to fill a vacant City Council seat following the resignation of Troy Nicely on July 31.

Under city code, leaders had 60 days to appoint a replacement, but two nomination attempts failed. A vote on Leora Shelton in early September didn’t pass, and a second meeting to consider Wayne County deputy Dean Bishop was canceled.

Mayor Shane Evans called off that vote after learning Bishop met with the city’s police chief.

It’s unclear when a new nominee will be brought forward.
