A Morgantown man told troopers he led police on a chase topping 150 miles per hour because he couldn’t afford a speeding ticket. According to court records, 49-year-old Robert McClain is charged with fleeing with reckless indifference after a multi-county pursuit that began in Roane County and ended in Braxton County. Authorities say McClain’s car reached 157 miles an hour before it was found abandoned, sparking a six-hour manhunt involving K-9s, drones, and aircraft. Troopers later arrested McClain after spotting him near Interstate 79. He remains in Central Regional Jail and could face additional charges.
