The City of Elkins has joined about 20 other West Virginia communities in passing protections for LGBTQ+ residents. City Council voted 8–2 to approve the ordinance banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing, and public services. The measure also adds protections for veterans, marital status, and family status — areas not fully covered under state law.
